Good for simple, one time canners
This machine was on the top of my wish list for Christmas (2013). When I received it I was estatic. Using it has been another story. It seems to work wonderfully for one time a day. If you try to use it twice in a row it need hours of time inbetween to cool and reset to be used again, otherwise is errors out in the middle of the second sesson every time. It is disappointing that its not good for production as canning is something we do to preserve big batches of veggies from our garden. I could of contined to to can with a big water bath vs. having a 300.00 machine thats useless after the first bath.

Love this Product
My husband purchased me the Home Canning System and the Jam and Jelly maker. I love both of them. It makes canning so easy and I had no issues with either of the products. I have made: Raspberry Jam, Blackberry Jam, Strawberry Jam, Apricot Jam and Pickles in less time than it normally takes. I would recommend these product to anyone who loves canning. It is so much easier and takes so much less room and time.

Energy & Time vs Capacity & Recipes
This product comes with excitement and disappointment... the excitement comes from it's energy efficiency and how little water it uses compared to the water bath method. And the kitchen doesn't get so warm/humid. I also love that I can "set it and forget it" - I'm able to go do other things and not be tied to the kitchen watching jars boil. As for the disappointment - I wish it held more jars - 4pt/3qt - is not enough. I also was disappointed by the lack of recipes available for use with the machine. I would ask that more recipes become available more quickly - especially those already in the Ball Blue Book Guide and those already so close in process to the ones available. If it were also a pressure canner - it would make it even more cost effective and versatile for the home canner.

For the Farmers Market Girl
My husband bought this for me about a month ago. I have done some serious canning, but these days I mostly stick to jams, tomatoes, and salsa. This has been perfect for me. So far I have made about 30 jars of jam and about 8 jars of the Italian tomatoes. I really love the fact that you can actually leave the kitchen during the canning process.

Not what I was hoping for
I have an electric pressure cooker for cooking and at first I was excited but upon reading about this it is not what I was expecting. An electric gadget for just a couple types of canning items is a waste of valuable storage real estate. An electric canner capable of both water bath and pressure techniques and will hold more jars would be an awesome product that any serious home canner would snap up. I am still waiting for such a product. Hint, hint.

Love it, but...
This machine is great. I've been using a lot, albeit with my own versions of the recipes. ie, i made MY bread and butter pickles, not the recipe provided, and used the same recipe program. I simply am not going to buy seasoning mixes and spice blends from Ball when I can make my own.
The recipe book is a blatant branding attempt. I don't NEED your pectin. I don't NEED your pickling spice. Or even YOUR brand of salt. Stop trying to make it seem like canning/preserving is impossible without your products.
Also, it would be nice on a future model to have a "custom" option to be able to input your own time/temp settings to be able to be completely free to preserve whatever you want. I have a lot of different produce growing in my garden and a lot of it can't be preserved in this machine as is simply because I don't know what temps the presets are set for. For those items, I have to use my water bath system.

Ball Fresh Tech Auto Canner
This canner is perfect for someone that does not do a lot of canning. I have a backyard garden. I may only have 3 to 4 quarts worth of ripe vegetables at a time. Then in another week, I have another batch. I've used the canner for tomato juice, tomato sauce, dilly beans, and a pineapple mango pepper jelly so far. I would still like to do salsa, tomatoes, and applesauce. I think the canner is pricey, but it really was perfect for me. It doesn't heat up the kitchen like hot water bath canning does. I do wish there were more recipes to pick from. I'd love to make my own pizza sauce. You are not able to use recipes other than those Ball provides for the canner. Because of the price and the limited number of recipes I only gave the canner 4 stars instead of 5.

I would be happier if it was larger -- canning only 3 quarts at time, makes for longer days in the kitchen canning, harder to keep jars hot and product hot -- need a larger canner to be able to process 6 - 7 quarts as in the water bath canner -- I can't avoid to purchase two of these! For my large family a larger canner is needed -- waste of time and money if you do a lot of canning
