I've been wondering why I can't seem to find the cute gingham or "holiday" lids anymore lately. I thought it was just my local supermarkets, but I don't see them on the Ball website either! Have they been discontinued?

I buy a lot of my jam jars on ebay or in thrift stores, so I need fresh bands and lids. I get bored with the plain gold ones, and I'm a bit disappointed that I can't seem to get the decorative ones any more.

I see them still on the Canadian website. Does anyone know if the Canadian jars are the same sizes as the American jars? (I'd hate to order some from Canada and find they don't fit.)

I've received jars that have a circle of calico cut out and placed between the lid and the ring, with or without a circle of batting underneath it. It's a nice alternative, that you can make custom depending on the occasion.

Ball® has come out with a whole new series of Platinum lids, with even a design printed in to the flat instead of boring things like its name, but it may be awhile before you really start seeing such things on store shelves. It seems most businesses in populated areas don't take canning seriously. I also don't know why this website is not updated regularly.

I make my own 2" and 1-1/2" labels on my printer (thread somewhere here which I will try to update with my latest) and you can also have commercially done labels.

Hi, I have found the gingham type labels and several other kinds at kitchen krafts. That is where I get mine from. I think they are like $2 something for 40 or so and you can get several different styles. They even have the labels for the pretty jelly jars with the oval for the label on the side. I have ordered different things from them several times and have always been satisfied. Hope that helps!

I did see the round labels you can smack right on the lids, kinda dressing them up a bit.

Hi, if you go on to www.amazon.com they have tons of cute lids. They have the gingham lids, fruit, flowers. Hopefully you can find what you're looking for there.

Yes, I'm sorry! I reread the posts and realized that you were talking about the actual metal lids!! I have only seen one kind of those and those the ones that come with the pretty jelly jars! I do like the labels however and maybe if you can't find the pretty metal ones the labels will work for you too!!

Last week, at Albertson's, I purchased the red gingham lids. They were marked down for clearance, so I assumed that they are no longer available. Pity... :(

Our church was offering "gifts in a jar" at craft fairs etc. and used a 6" fabric circle. We soon got tired of cutting those circles and in need of something else since many of us do home canning also and give items as gifts. I buy a small can of a high gloss metal and wood enamel paint. After processing and jars are cooled I paint the flat seal and many times paint the screw ring when it's back on the jar. My friend does green for jellies, I use red for home grown and home dried herbs for sale at our fairs and bake sales and depending what time of year or item in jar I vary the colors. It looks really nice. I then print labels on my computer or sometimes buy the fancy labels, but the computer ink or marker will match the lid cover. It's not a quick project but the results are worth it and the compliments help.
