I'm looking for a mincemeat recipe without meat that can be safely canned. I have one I like that I've frozen before, but my freezer tends to become a black hole no matter how carefully I label and list things.

Thanks!

There are four recipes in the Ball Blue Book of both meat and meatless varieties.

Somehow I missed them - I'll look again. Thanks!

I found only one for boiling water bath canning in the BBB - pear mincemeat. Would it be ok to sub apples for the pears? Pears are harder to come by at the farmers market, but the local apple crop is fantastic this year.

Thanks!

I have the Ball Blue Book 2008 Edition and there is a Brandied Mincemeat on Page 84 that has no meat in it and can be canned in the water bath canner. I'm planning on making this when I get the supplies.

Substituting apples for pears should be fine.

Excellent news, then. I'll make the pear mincemeat with apples (until I can get pears next year!) and search out the Brandied Mincemeat recipe (they must have dropped it in the 2009 Blue Book, but I have a good bookstore coupon so I'm thinking about going out to get the bigger Ball Complete Guide).

Thanks so much for all of your help!
