 Post subject: Sealing Jellies with wax.

Hi, I want to make "Friend " jars. I seal them with wax. Is there a trick to make sure that they don't seep? I wipe the inside rim very carefully. Also I get lots of bubbles. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

You are experiencing why wax sealing has been considered unsafe for years and should not be used. Here is a fact sheet (PDF) on the subject:

Yes, paraffin is definitely NOT recommended. Seeping is one reason. You can do a great job decorating conventionally sealed jars for gifts. A bit of fabric, some ribbon, a glue gun and some dried flowers ... have at it.
